I research and analyze solar panel insurance policies across the states this site covers. I review actual policy documents, track claims outcomes, and talk with real solar homeowners who have filed claims. No insurer funding. No paid rankings.

Our Story

I started SolarInsureUS after years of working as a property insurance broker, where I kept seeing the same troubling pattern: homeowners were installing thousands of dollars of solar equipment without understanding whether โ€” or how well โ€” their existing insurance actually covered it.

One case stuck with me: a client's newly installed $28,000 solar system was destroyed in a wildfire, only for the family to discover their coverage was inadequate and the claim disputed. That case convinced me to leave traditional underwriting and build an independent resource for solar homeowners instead.

Today, SolarInsureUS has helped thousands of US solar homeowners understand their coverage, compare quotes, and find policies that actually protect their investment.

Our Expertise

Our Independence Promise

SolarInsureUS is an independent comparison service. I am not owned by, affiliated with, or financially controlled by any insurance company, and I do not accept payment to rank any insurer higher than it deserves. My revenue comes from referral fees paid by insurers when consumers request quotes โ€” but these fees do not influence editorial rankings or coverage recommendations.

My editorial judgment operates independently from any commercial partnerships. All insurer reviews are based on actual policy analysis, claims data, and consumer input โ€” not on paid relationships.

Our Research Process

Every guide on SolarInsureUS follows a rigorous research process:

  1. I obtain actual policy documents from each insurer โ€” not just marketing materials
  2. I call claims departments to test responsiveness and knowledge
  3. I talk with real solar homeowners who have filed claims
  4. I interview licensed insurance agents in each state I cover
  5. I update all guides at least quarterly to reflect market changes

Credentials & Certifications

I hold the following credentials: Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) designation ยท Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC) ยท Licensed Insurance Consultant in 12 states ยท Member, National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors (NAIFA) ยท Former Underwriter, Property & Casualty Division (two major US carriers, 2009โ€“2019)

Our Editorial Policy

SolarInsureUS publishes independent insurance research and comparison content. My editorial process follows these standards:

Corrections Policy

If you find a factual error in our content, please contact us with the specific claim and your source. I review all correction requests within 5 business days. Confirmed errors are corrected with an editorial note at the bottom of the affected page.

Premium range estimates are reviewed and updated quarterly and are labeled with the research year.

How We Make Money

SolarInsureUS earns revenue in two ways:

  1. Referral fees: When visitors click quote comparison links and request insurance quotes, I may receive a referral fee from the comparison platform (such as EverQuote). This is the standard revenue model for independent insurance comparison sites.
  2. Display advertising: This site displays advertisements via Google AdSense. You can opt out of personalized advertising at Google Ads Settings.

Neither revenue stream influences the editorial content. Insurers I have no referral relationship with receive the same editorial treatment as those I do.
