Our Story

SolarInsureUS was founded in 2012, when solar adoption was just beginning its exponential climb across the United States. Our founder, Michael Torres, was working as a licensed underwriter when he noticed a troubling pattern: homeowners were installing thousands of dollars of solar equipment without understanding whether — or how well — their existing insurance covered it.

After a California wildfire destroyed a neighbor's newly installed $28,000 solar system — only to discover the coverage was inadequate and the claim was disputed — Michael left traditional underwriting to build an independent resource for solar homeowners.

Today, SolarInsureUS has helped over 180,000 US solar homeowners understand their coverage, compare quotes, and find policies that actually protect their investment.

Every guide on SolarInsureUS follows a rigorous research process:

2. We call claims departments to test responsiveness and knowledge
